Pre-training Day One: Are you kidding me?

I started my pre-training this morning. I went running about a week ago while I was back upstate for Thanksgiving. As a result of said run, I had a cold for about 5 days following.

Today I ran for 20 minutes which translated to about 2 miles. As I got to my car parked near Astoria park, I discovered a non too cool surprise.

Really? Really? There goes me paying the Kentucky entry fee today.

I totally get that song by Ice-T now.

Prologue I think is what it is called?

So here's the deal. Life is full of crazy surprises. One moment you're working at the US Senate, the next you're working at a PR firm that represents a monster beloved by the world. Then so many moments following that moment, you end up where I am.

Where am I? Everywhere. Tivo me. I'm Oprah. (Not really, please don't sue me Oprah)

But specifically I'm here in NYC; the place where so many dreams come true. Right? Make it all happen. Tap dancing. Purses. Port Authority. CSI. You get the picture. And currently in my life, I am a 23 year old Lady working in the film industry. As is everyone and their mother. Every day I get handed scripts (despite me saying I'm not really at a point to be taking their scripts) and they're usually about Ladies falling in and out of love or Ladies trying to become singers or Ladies fighting other Ladies in a space dome. Other than the last one, they're usually pretty boring stories. And so if someone were to hand me a Lady script about my life (which I assume is where all those other Lady stories came from including the space dome fight one) I realized there are a few things in my life that I haven't yet done that I would like to be in my story.

One - Get on airplane to anywhere (that's kind of an embarrassing confession being 23)
Two - Finish a feature length film script (the space dome fight idea was already taken)
Three - Own a large piece of land out west (I belong in the 1840s)
Four - Eliminate pogs.
And the list goes on...

And somewhere on the list would be to run a credited half-marathon/marathon. And so...that's what I'm doing?

I suppose an additional reason I'm doing it is due to a somewhat insane 2007...am I right Ladies with mcDreamy and Meredith breaking up what is the world coming to? Um maybe. But mostly I kind of just want to do it.

And so I am. My marathon will be the Kentucky Marathon on April 26th, 2008. Yes, please make the joke now: "Are you racing horses? Right like the Horses. Haha LOLcats right?" Great now that that is settled, you might ask why Kentucky? And I would say, why not? Plus it takes care of no. 1 on my to do list as well.

The Kentucky Derby festival features a half (13.1 miles) and full marathon (26.2 miles) that take place the weekend before the Horses run around the track for Ladies with big hats on to enjoy. More info can be found here:

I have applied for the full marathon realizing that I can also run the half if all systems fail during this training process. Which leads me to why I decided to start this blog. I'm not the most fit person ever...I run occasionally and work out etc. I recently finished two half-marathons sponsored by SUNY Oswego and another upstate NY college. In doing those, I sort of half-heartedly trained and wasn't fully prepared for them. This time I'm gonna do it for real. Follow the program and cry the whole time, just like a Lady would. So as I said perhaps prematurely, this leads me to why I decided to start this blog. I will document the whole thing on this blog. Every tearful embrace. Every carb loading fiesta. Every angry phone call

At the same time, I'm also going to do it to raise money for the National MS Society, which is a cause near and dear to my heart. I have created a donation site that will act as a way for people who read this blog or just enjoy saying my last name to support me by supporting a cause I believe in.

So...I think that's everything. It's quite the prologue, am I right? I should sell this Lifetime. Or get Picturehouse to buy ad space for their film 'Run Fatboy Run'. Or have Katie Holmes be my role model. Maybe not the last one.
